Forum puts local students in touch with May primary candidates

Kendashia Smith left Saturday’s candidate forum at the University of Memphis feeling she had a better understanding of how things work, which means organizers hit the mark.

Smith, an 18-year-old senior at Martin Luther King Jr. Preparatory High School in Frayser, was among students participating in a forum organized by the Campaign for School Equity. Students from about a dozen schools peppered 14 Shelby County School Board and County Commission candidates with questions.
