CSE Statement on New ASD Leadership
Memphis, Tennessee – Campaign for School Equity’s executive director Mendell Grinter released the following statement in response to Dr. Sharon Griffin being selected as the new Superintendent of the state Achievement School District.
“The work of transforming persistently low-performing schools across the state of Tennessee – especially in Memphis – is urgent, needed, but not without challenges. Over the past several years, the ASD has been an integral part of school transformation work in Memphis, and we’ve all learned a great deal on the need to engage the community and work collaboratively to impact the students we serve.
Campaign for School Equity welcomes Dr. Sharon Griffin to the role of ASD superintendent and we look forward to working together with her as we continue to support efforts to improve students’ performance, especially in our Priority schools. Dr. Griffin is a proven leader who no doubt has what it takes to lead our schools forward.”
